    AOD Tanking

Apparently I should have sold out of AOD and moved into ADVDX (I didn't). What the heck is happening to AOD? I know no one probably knows but I thought I would throw this out there.

    • I hope so too! Also, I emailed Yahoo asking them for a AOD message board but, alas, no dice. Perhaps one day but at least we have this board for now!

    • I do own ADVDX as well but I am more heavily invested in AOD, which is why the ups and downs get to me a bit more :). If we ever get up to around a 7% premium I may move a bit more towards ADVDX but I just like AOD better overall. I like that it is a closed-end fund and basically has the handcuffs off so that Jill and Kevin can do whatever they think is best, you know?

That is just the way I invest, I usually buy funds that have managers I trust and very few rules. The last thing I want is to miss a major opportunity because of one line in the prospectus!

    • I am still luckily in AOD, I decided not to sell, and today feels great...but it still has been a really strange trading pattern. I don't know what is up with it!

    • Did you listen to the call? There were individuals on it that didn't know what a closed-end fund was. There were also some who were well prepared, don't get me wrong, but some just made me hit my head. All I am saying is I think much more highly of the people on this board than some of the people on that call.

    • Evergreen Funds seems to have a few winners.
I was looking at this fund as well just to diversify a little in case the bus crashes or something.

      Just looking for opinions.

    • The underwriters are getting out as AOD was just established in January of '07. NEVER BUY A CLOSED END FUND UNTIL AT LEAST A YEAR AFTER IPO! Closed end funds are entirely different animals and--generally--the underwriters of the IPO usually agree to hold the share price stable anywhere from six months to a year after the IPO. It has almost been six months, so guess what? Time is up. This drop may continue for a little while (unless there is a large influx of new money), but then eventually the share price will stabilize.

      • If that is true why did AWP tank right away?
I love how yesterday Jill and her boy said they didn't forsee AOD moving below the IPO price unless there was major market correction, and now today we find ourselves below the IPO price.
I'd really like to know if something is going on with Alpine or if this is just a good time to buy?
Let's just hope they can do some magic and get the NAV values to start moving up!

    • And it continues today...I think this is more than just the premium getting squeezed, someone large is getting out...just my thought.

    • I called them this afternoon and they told me the div drop is definitely at Thursday's close.

    • Ive been thinking of getting in AOD at a good price maybe under $20.00.But then I say why? Its yields is lower and has higher expenses. The main selling point for AOD was that it was closed end I'm not so sure anyone really cares about that fact now.ADVDX can out perform at a cheaper price maybe some in the Alpine family are rotating into ADVDX since its price has been more stable as of late.ADVDX is only down .30-.40$ with AOD down 1.00-1.50$ plus.
