Don Willis responds to complaints of huge backlog and slowness
from the PCGS coin forum. Don's words, not mine
"Ouch! I feel the pain as well.
All I can say is that we are doing everything humanly possible to work through our backlogs. Maybe you don't see it but I think we will be coming out from under this soon. Like they say - it's always darkest before the dawn.
How did this happen? Well it was a combination of a number of things that started just before the holidays. The perfect storm. Underneath it all is the tremendous demand for PCGS graded coins.
It's difficult to offer any more insight into where your order is than what we currently provide. It's not like we are running a factory with FIFO predictability. There are many factors that affect turnaround. Varieties, TrueViews, Secure processing - all affect the time it takes to process your order. Plus there is the constant juggling of staff and service levels. Even a simple little thing like grading coins can get complicated when you are grading over 50,000 per week with multiple service levels and specialists. Even the easiest coin to grade goes through at least 8 or 9 steps before it can be shipped.
I know that's not your problem and that is what you are paying us to do. On the other hand, we will not comprise our integrity and will continue to spend as much time grading every coin as is needed no matter what the turnaround times are.
Thanks for all your support. Hang in there we are doing our best."
