does PGCS clean coins as well as grade them?

trying to find an "acceptable" cleaning service to get rid of ugly black oxidation but not degrade the coins value. does a dip into silver polish result in "bad" cleaning?

    • Toning

PCGS Restoration will not remove original toning simply to make a coin white.
PCGS Restoration will never add toning to a coin.
In cases where PCGS determines that removing toning is necessary and desirable and will not detract from the coin, it may be done. This type of toning may be the result of improper storage, interaction with corrosive materials, or a stain due to an accidental spill.

    • PCGS has a restoration service. Depending on the value of your coin, I'd let them do it. What type of coin, yr, grade guestimate, and worth is it? If it's worth more than $500, I'd let them do it. Under that, take a stab at it. I would try on a test coin first that is worth melt. Rinse in acetone and let air dry. Don't rub it at all.

FYI - some people like the "ugly" black oxidation. It shows age and lets people know the coin hasn't been touched in many years.
