Does a $99 amendment apply to an existing Block customer whose 1040 return has been paid for and filed a few months ago? This client "forgot" that he was an independent contractor until the 1099-Misc arrived a few days ago. He brought in the 1099-Misc, and the office manager ordered the tax preparer to amend his tax return for $99. Of course the amendments included Sch C, 8829, 4562, lines 24 a and 24 b , auto expenses, self-employed health insurance, and a SEP IRA. Those schedules would easily add up to hundreds of additional dollars.
Further, this sort of pricing encourages people to "forget", and come back for the give-away amendment.
Speaking of amendments. If a client e-filed a return two weeks ago showing bal due of say $7000.00 and then received a corrected w2 and after return was amended it showed a refund of say $1100.00 would you tell them they had to pay first then ask for refund later?
