When Pacific Biosciences of California fulfills its goals, it will offer its sequencing machines--designed to sequence genomes in minutes--to commercial markets and doctors' offices. CTO Stephen Turner founded the company in 2000. It is currently privately-owned and funded by various venture capital investment firms, but in 2010 the company filed to go public.
