With both LIFE and ILMN showing their new machines to the public on Jan 5 (Don't you think it was more then a coincidence that both events happened on the same day ??) PACB is perhaps waiting for the AGBT meeting this year to unveil their latest machine ??
Or perhaps, at least some noteworthy improvements/ugrades to the existing machine ??
"•2x increase in average read length; •3-4x improvement in mappable data per SMRT Cell; •50-80% reduction in input DNA required; and •Consensus accuracy of Q50 (99.999%) at substantially lower coverage. "
"This week’s AGBT conference will feature a total of 35 presentations and posters from PacBio customers, largely highlighting the two key applications for the system. Scientists from PacBio will also present a total of 15 presentations and posters about the technology."
There is a reason PACB is the primary sponsor of AGBT. However, expecting them to announce a new instrument so soon is unrealistic, particularly without as much as a pipsqueak on the horizon. Aspects of the existing tool - sure.
