Native American remains found at construction site on PACB property - Closing my position

A construction crew working in Menlo Park unearthed Native American remains on Tuesday, police announced.

The workers discovered what appeared to be two human skulls and other bone fragments at 1005 Hamilton Court on property owned by Pacific Biosciences, said Menlo Park police spokeswoman Nicole Acker.

The crew was tearing up a concrete surface to lay a foundation for a building when it discovered the remains, she said. The workers immediately called police and construction was halted while Menlo Park detectives and the San Mateo County Coroner's Office conducted an investigation.

The coroner's office determined that the remains were from long-deceased Native Americans.

There is a Native American burial site behind the construction site, about 100 yards west of the property, Acker said.

The Native American Historical Society was notified, as per protocol, she added. The organization plans to take possession of the bones today, and digging will be delayed while they examine the site, she said.
