it's funny that one article says "Affymetrix , Life Technologies , Luminex and Pacific Biosciences of California are potential prospects that Roche might consider." out of these four company, Affymetrix does not have any NGS product at all, it only sells some reagents used in sanger sequencing. luminex is even not a sequencing company, it's primary products are focused on multiplex immuno-assay and multiplex PCR assay. ion pgm is only a part of life technologies, the later is valued at 8.89B. the advantage and potential of pacbio over ion pgm or illumina has been posted many times on the board. PACB has more cash than it's mkt cap. so it seems that pacbio is really the only best choice for Roche for now.
