it's simple. just choose the number that suits what you want to believe.
like, to longs a book value of 500 plus sounds great. so they go for it.
never mind that if there was any truth to that number, this company would be investment grade and there would be no controversy whatsoever about their ability to pay off the govt......hell, I'D buy some.
$553.50 to be exact! This is from their report on May 21, 2010. There are some other figures on their website that anyone can access, which shows a book value of .30. Regardless of these and all figures of AIG´s book value, the bottom line is that the pps will go way up if AIG pays off Uncle Sam. I happen to believe they will and that those of us who have endured this roller coaster ride will profit nicely!
It says in the most recent analyst report (requires subscription)that the book value is around $550, but I also see online where it says .30 pps and have no idea why.
At any rate, I think the price will slowly go up as AIG sells off units and reports quarterly profits, but the big catalyst will be when they finally pay off Uncle Sam. This is the gamble, but I think they´re going to do it and then the price is really going to go up, which is why I´m holding long.
