    Could it be the lawsuit?

Most of the "losses" that AIG had were not really losses but simply collateral they needed to put up in case of a default.

Most of the defaults never happened and now the collateral is coming back to AIG.

So why should the government get 90% stake in AIG for lending them money to put up collateral?

Government stake will turn out to be minute and AIG will trade with a $130 billion market cap(around C and Bac) expect triple from here...and it will happen faster than you can imagine as word gets out.

    Just my honest opinion.

    • Agree, their insurance biz was and is fine. GD GS screwed the whole world, and should be put out of business

    • mr. jz, I could use some money to buy some collateral so my real estate holdings look solvent.

I will give you no ownership interest in my holdings and pay you nothing in consideration for this capital. And when my fortunes turn around, I will expect you to file suit in order to get any of your money back.

when can I expect a check from you?

      • More like this...we have written insurance against a bunch of investments defaulting...those investments are looking bad and the people we have given the insurance to want collateral IN CASE OF DEFAULT...We do not have enough to cover the collateral calls on all these companies and although almost all of these companies will NOT default currently we can't meet the calls. So we need 180 billion to give as collateral which we feel will come back to us as it becomes obvious that these invesments will not default. Yes the max loss will be 180 billion if the worst case scenario happens but the likely hood of that is close to zero. Yes there were some defaults but those have been covered by AIG selling some assets NOT THE GOVERNEMNT.(PLEASE DONT START SAYING MONEY IS FUNGIBLE YADA YADA).

        Making sense now???

    • um no, the losses were real loss. It was pay out ... do you even know what you're talking about
