Looking back over the chart, I see that this stock grew steadily through 2005. In 2006, it went up and down, with some growth in the first half of the year, but primarily down in the second half.
Here's my question: what was happening in 2005 that is not happening now? You can't tell me the weather was steadily getting colder from the start to the end of 2005 - I've seen a lot of folks saying the stock reacts to weather, and I do see some indication of that, but it doesn't explain why the stock was continually going up in 2005, and pretty much steadily retreating in the second half of 2006.
If I could understand this, I think I'd have a much clearer picture about ACI stock. Thanks!
My recollection is that the price of oil was higher, and the market price of coal was higher, and there was concern about oil supplies from the middle east including Iran, and the common thought was that the global demand for oil and energy would continue to rise in the future with the increasing use of oil and energy by India and China for instance. Coal was seen as a partial and imperfect substitute for expensive oil. Respectfully submitted.
