    Climate Change Effects

If / When all US focussed coal companies file for bankruptcy protection due to excess production then

    - blame Obama - BWAHHHHH
    - Obama cut production - BWAHHHH
    - too little coal in the market due to Obama - BWAHHH

    • Since Obama said on the public airwaves that he wants to bankrupt the coal industry (January 2008), I don`t think it`s a reach to blame him if the coal industry gies bankrupt. Do you?

      • While I doubt that Obama as a politician would say something blatant like that, words are not material, actions are.

The coal industry is facing bankruptcy because of
        (1) lower demand due to climate change
        (2) continuing excess production in the face of lower demand

Neither factor has much to do with Obama.

If Obama/EPA/Repugs were to restrict coal supply it would help the coal guys by getting sanity back to pricing. Barring that the first order of business is a dividend cut. That will further kill the stock but have only a modest effect on cash flow.
