    Put Avid for sale!

The management has been a total failure. A Yahoo like situation would not be too bad!

    • im thinking sony would be a good idea as well - it would do them both good and maybe fix some of this mess

    • aapl has no need for avid. they're kicking their butts and would only be doing them a favor by buying them out. sony on the other hand, used to be kings of post production but with the death of the post houses and the move into non-linear editing, a buyout of avid could jump start their sagging post production operations.

    • With YAHOO and TTWO being gobbled up by bigger fishes, we may see AVID meeting the same fate. Accumulate if you got cash!

    • Now, the AAPL angle sounds plausible. I used Avid's products, i.e. its Media Composer, Film Composer and Audio Vision. Frankly, they're great! For its hardware it's all AAPL bundle. So, AAPL had a huge influence on AVID. Now, AAPL's boxes are getting cheaper and more commoditized, that cuts deeply into AVID's margins. Also, the storage system, AVID used to use Raid for backup, 1 gig 7200RPM drive would cost a fortune, now, the new IPhone has 32 gig. This has a HUGE impact on AVID's margin.

If Job buys AVID and folds it into its AV post unit, it can offer a suite like AVID used to. That'll be phenomenal.

    • So you're saying to put two "control freaks" together and you'll get a positive outcome? I'm not so sure...
That's without even considering the past and current friction between these two particular companies.

    • Actually, those who know the product culture at Avid will know that a fit with a company like AAPL or Sony is the correct fit. Avid, like those other 2 companies, is proprietary/control-oriented when it comes to it's product.

Avid has always put a huge value on reliability and the user experience. Avid's products do that they say they'll do and they have moved more and more into large installations and end-to-end solutions.

This focus would fit nicely into Sony Industrial's current stance or into Apple's culture of complete control software and hardware.

    • A perfect fit indeed! Well, APPL got the currency!

    • maybe AAPL will put up 1 of its 20 bil. in cash and put AVID out of its misery once and for all, there no way greenfield can dig this company out of the ruins, wonder if he really knew just what he was getting himself into?
anyway its got to be time for the usual management bull "we'll need a min. of 6 quarters to right this ship"
      what a disaster.
