Rumors are leaking that Line 6 could be preparing to try and sell itself to Avid. According to a Line 6 employee, it appears various ex-Avid SVPs and VPs were recently hired by Line 6 after a reorganization. Line 6 also purchased SAP and moved their finished products into the same warehouse as Avid. All this comes after a failed attempt to sell Line 6 to Yamaha last year (according to the employee).
All I can say is if this is all true.. it sucks! IMO, Line 6 is not a good acquisition for Avid.
My Opinion: Modeling technology is outdated and many other companies are doing it - some even better. Maybe a possible clue that modeling isn't profitable anymore is the fact that Line 6 has recently begun to use REAL magnetic pickups, and REAL tubes. Also it's believed that Line 6's previously popular Spider line is now falling behind to Peavey Viper, and other amplifier brands.
Avid, please. If the above is true.. PLEASE stop these bad acquisitions!
I don't see how this would benefit Avid since they essentially have competing products and the branding backlash would be a problem - why buy a company with inferior (according to them) products? You might also remind your 'friend' that employees leaking info (or spreading rumors) are looking for some serious trouble.
