    Y2K Prognostication

First off, the Avid broadcast strategy (or should
I say stragedy - a strategic tragedy that is) is a
psycho and desperate move. Teaming with Pluto??? who has
little to no presence in the principal broadcasters such
as Fox, CBS, CNN, etc. seems to spell the end for
the previously mentioned relationship with Tektronix
who have a huge Profile installed based. Avid is
grasping at yet another deal that they won't be able to
    bring to market.

    With the coming
century/millenium roll over, it's always interesting to guess where
we'll be a year from now. The word on the street is
that as soon as Avid dumps the Soft|Lemon, Pinnacle is
going to pick them up, leaving the marketplace yet
again one competitor thinner. One can only imagine what
the Avid product lineup will look like under Pinnacle
    management

Throw in a web play, coupled with Avid discontinuing
Cinema (their only product in the consumer marketplace
that they inevitably found out needed a different
sales channel) and you've got a chicken running around
with its head dangling by a few miserable
    tendons.

Kinda' sad in the end, because Avid does make superb
products which own the professional market. Too little too
late - just not enough to drive year over year growth,
coupled with zero management/CTO deep thought direction,
and it all comes up smelling septic tank at best.
