Why was Dave Hartline let go?

USAK is/was basically the same as HTLD, almost same number of tractors and terminals in basically the same places, except HTLD usually pulls down 60+ million a year in profits and USAK struggles to make even a million.

They finally hire Dave Hartline from HTLD to show them how it's done and then they let him go less than a year later. What gives? They don't like people telling them how to run their failing business?

USAK is doomed IMO, they had to sell their Shreveport terminal and they're paying drivers less than they were in 2000.

Speed resigns and Powell is no longer active on the scene. Those two already made their money. It was their cash cow.

USAK must be getting ready to sell the company, maybe to HTLD. HTLD could buy USAK outright with the spare change in Mike Gerdin's piggy bank and easily absorb the terminals in West Memphis, Van Buren, Carlisle, Phoenix, Atlanta and Texas and Ohio etc. And the USAK drivers would stick around because HTLD pays a lot more than USAK. It's a win-win for both.
