Sure, normally you are correct. But the system is not functioning normally.
If you have been in (watching?) the stock for years and years, until recently you and the longs have been right. But, don't you think there are many signs the future will be nothing like the recent past? In that environment did the typical consumer's largest asset lose value? The times they are a changin' and the wealth effect's ridiculous reflexive process/feedback loop has been reversed.
