I sold 100 shares of TOSBF that I have had for years and I was amazed that TD Ameritrade charged me a 100 dollar foreign securities fee to sell it. They said it was a fee passed on at cost from Merrill Global Custody Services. I have sold literally hundreds of ADRs on Pink Sheets, OTC, etc. and I have never been charged this fee. Anyone have a similar situation?
Hey Kev, they are all doing it. Toshiba is not an ADR. There is an ADR for toshiba but it seldom trades. Then there is the OTC Toshiba that you can buy in the states with a small few cent markup and a 100 DOLLAR fee but you can buy it in real time. Or, you can buy the shares in the Japan market but you won't know till the next day if your trade went through or not and it's still 100 bucks.
By the way, why did you sell now? I just bought. I' ve been watchiing this for years and I think they are finally coming out of a slump and that there is going to be a big opportunity here with Toshiba's aquisition of Westinghouse and the nuke power plant market in general. Why did you decide to sell now?
