You know.... I actually was thinking along those same lines as well. Hard to see much downside risk.
However, I couldn't get myself to pull the trigger. As soon as NECA stops buying, volume drops to almost 0 and the price slides. Second, while I like the idea of someone being into HAST, I don't really think NECA brings much that changes the trajectory. They don't have experience in B&M that makes me think they will bring something great.. Perhaps that is what HAST needs though - a clean perspective.
I guess we'll see.
Pardon - who is NECA? I don't follow this stock everyday, so I must have missed something. My local store is receiving a much needed total reset. Rental DVD is cut down - as it should be - but - dvd for sale gets more space. Music is completely reset with added music type accessories and stuff. Looks good. Best music selection in town now - Best Buy is getting out of that business month by month. Oh. An entirely new large 2 sided fixture for vinyl - yes - vinyl records. I am impressed - hope it sells. I don't know another store with vinyl in West Texas. Neither Wal-Mart in town has the selection of music and dvd's that Hasting's inventories. Wish they'd identify the Blu-ray 3D dvd rentals. I remain concerned about their mid-town location. Grown is along the Loop in North and West areas. By the way, Hasting's has a huge selection of new release titles @ $.99 a day. That's $.30 cheaper than Red Box.
Thanks for the info Greatday. NECA = national entertainment collectibles association, checkout out their website for more info on them. They have been buying shares of HAST for the last year and now hold over 10 percent. We are taking guesses on why they are buying the shares.
I'm kind of with you... If you have ridden it this long, no point selling now. It's stable around $2 so little reason to get out.
NECA is really interesting. Perhaps they see this is a good way into a distribution channel. If HAST was already a big customer, they can get HAST to merchandise 8' dedicated to them... Probably drive enough sales and margin to be happy. If they wanted to do that, and you had this option (invest a few $M in Hast and get in 140 stores, or build your own store/prototype for a few million.... why not). Just a thought.
