Among the three I agree with you that ODP and SPLS will survive. Where I disagree is that they are both good. SPLS is Great while ODP is OK. Staples beats Depot on the contract side every day and will continue to do so. Staples does a better job at retail as well - not great but a little better. So where we disagree is that I think Staples is a superior company to Depot and does outperform Depot every day. Just my opinion - by the way I do not work for Staples and never have. I am in the OP industry and know both players well.
I'll be watching volume today. Yesterday's volume was a respectable 6.3M traded shares on a near 5% gain which is a significantly higher average. We'll see how much new money continues to rotate to ODP for this trading session after yesterday's upgrade.
One thing is near certain, with this upgrade - we can pretty much call the bottom at that $18 low a few weeks back. ODP being over-sold is recognized and nearly indisputable after yesterday's upgrade.
