Office Depot has an 50% non-controlling stake in a Mexico unit that is more profitable than the us stores which could be worth up to a billion some say. This is not quit fully counted into the value of the company right now. This is one of Office Depot crown jewels and because the stock is so cheap hedge managers are trying to get enough outstanding shares to take over the board and get control of that asset and reap 3 digits returns. Office Depot dependents very much on the dividends that this unit pays in to keep the north American division a float. They need to somehow add this value back in to stop these hedge fund manager from raiding this valuable asset.
