    Will BPOP buy DRL?

Popular, Inc. (BPOP) is a large Puerto Rico based financial institution with $46B in assets. It's been growing fast largely through acquisitions.

From its 12/31/04 Letter to Shareholders (page 3)...

"Our business in Puerto Rico represents an interesting challenge for us. We have established a strong leadership position in most product categories and population segments, but we have seen increased competition from local and national niche players."

    (replace the "x's" with "t's")

IMHO, the easiest way to eliminate DRL's competition is to acquire it, especially since DRL's 8/19/05 stock price is now only 1/3 the value that the Levis purchased their insider shares back in January.
