    Paper will detail fuel efficiency improvements in China engine

    Changan – Orbital ICCS Technical Paper
    Following the successful completion of the Changan Automotive Program
    demonstrating the potential of up to 20% fuel economy improvement on a Changan
    passenger car, Changan and Orbital have jointly prepared a technical paper
    titled "Changan's approach to fuel consumption reduction using advanced GDI and
    combined technologies" to be presented at the 2nd Aachen Colloquium China to be
    held in Beijing on November 6-7, 2012.
    The "ICCS" (Intelligent Compound Combustion Systems) engine developed for this
    program incorporated Orbital's FlexDITM direct injection systems with external
    exhaust recirculation (EGR), variable valve timing and a 2 stage variable valve
    lift. This required new engine control methods and algorithms to maximise the
    potential of combining the various technologies. The program was undertaken by
    Orbital at its Perth facilities, with Changan engineers on site at all key parts
    of the program.
    The technical paper covers the development and integration of the key
    technologies integrated into the ICCS, and looks to identify the contributions
    made by each of the technologies towards the overall fuel consumption result.
    The ICCS car featuring Euro IV emission capability with fuel consumption over
    the standard European drive cycle reduced by as much as 20% compared with a
    conventional engine fitted to the same model, along with fuel consumption
    reductions of up to 40 per cent at idle was delivered to China in 2011 where it
    demonstrated these best-in-class results. The program also demonstrated
