    Nassim Taleb's ideas about guns

    Just came across this...

Nassim Taleb's Super-Simple Argument For Banning Semi-Automatic Weapons

I'm not that familiar with his writings, but I can't say that I'm particularly impressed with the thinking behind this blog. He doesn't seem to know much about guns.

    • This is a hedge fund manager. He is worried the people will, like they did in the Soviet Union, bring him to trial for his crime against the people. He belongs is a slave labor camp.

    • My own solution is to crack down on gun traffickers. But this is an issue I have largely given up. The butcher's bill is what we are willing to accept in return for getting to feel like John Wayne.

"The butcher's bill is what we are willing to accept in return for getting to feel like John Wayne."

I think the butcher's bill is what we get when an increasing portion of the 47% feels society owes them even more than what they are already getting for nothing.

There was recent story about a break-in in Detroit. Three people broke into a house and had a party in the house with the food and drink they could find. The homeowner returned unexpectedly and had them arrested.

The neighbor interviewed (friend of the intruders) thought that anybody dumb enough to leave a house unattended for a few days deserves to have his things taken and enjoyed by other people. This is the legacy of the "Great Society" of LBJ.

      • Taleb is from Lebanon. They have a different view on guns there because they've seen what happens when civility collapses. If you look at America and it's mindless obsession with violence, it's not entirely an irrational opinion.
