    Goal posts

I think it's possible to imagine that at some point someone on the inside of the Obama administration told Woodward that revenue would be off the table in future budget negotiations. What I find impossible to imagine that such a statement would be true.

H: What I find impossible to imagine that such a statement would be true.

There is no reason someone inside the Obama admin would say such a thing if it weren't true. Even among liars (i.e. politicians), there is a code of ethics. Lying on the campaign trail is one thing, reneging on an agreement with a fellow politician behind closed doors is another.

It appears to me that Boehner's mistrust of Obama appears to be genuine. This would be consistent with Obama moving the goal posts from where they were in 2011.

      Obama's word isn't worth spit.

But the problem is that it wasn't true. It's certainly the case that the president had every intention of talking about tax increases as a part of the sequester negotiations. The issue seems to be why someone lied about it to Woodward. Remember, Woodward reports what people say, and more specifically what they say to him, not what they are thinking.
