As of now, I don't thing default will go back on the table any time in the future. The next time any Democrat could possibly run for re-election for president is seven years away. In two years, President Obama will be a lame duck, invulnerable to the political pressures that caused him to lose this battle in 2011. Meanwhile, lots of Democrats will be asking Republican congressional incumbents, why did you cost the economy 24 billion dollars? Why did you play politics with our standing in the world? With the fiscal stability of our country? With my 401k and savings?
So what exactly did Obama win? A two year delay on default?
What does a parent win when a child ends tantrum? The resumption of life without a screaming child? Of course, there is no guarantee that the child won't start screaming again, but eventually, at least so the theory goes, the child will grow up.
