    cmg caught cheating customers

rounding up the pennies without customers knowing because they can't raise prices. wow, that's desperation! if you can't beat the numbers, start cheating. their excuse? to move the line quicker! well, how about rounding it DOWN? this worthless, inflated company is going to suffer bad with all these lawsuits and now the cheating scandal. LOL! here's the article:***************
"Chipotle Caught Cheating Customers Out Of Pennies, Will Stop Rounding Up Checks "
Bank of America may round your bill up and put the change in your savings account, which seems good, but what if your favorite restaurant was tacking extra pennies onto your check — but for their potential benefit?

Chipotle locations around the country have been doing just that. A few confused New Jersey residents were caught off guard recently when they noticed their checks were rounded up to the nearest even amount.

The Star-Ledger's Karen Price Mueller investigated and found that in Chipotle's busiest markets — such as New York City and New Jersey — its registers round down or up depending where the coin falls nearest to a nickel.

A spokesperson for Chipotle told the Star-Ledger that the company employs the practice to curb long lines and create greater efficiency in these high-volume locations."The idea is simply to limit the possible combinations of change on cash transactions to keep the lines moving quickly in high volume areas," spokesman Chris Arnold tells the newspaper. "It was never our intention to have a policy that was confusing or misleading," he told NJ.com.

He also explained to the New York Times that Chipotle hasn't seen any kind of profit from the practice.

As of August 1, Chipotle locations in New Jersey will no longer be rounding up, only down, a spokesperson told Consumerist.

Still, there is debate as to whether it could simply be more convenient to avoid small change altogether with the round-up method.

    • Either eat there or not, that is the question. Rest of this is "so who cares". I don't take pennies anyway. They clog up my pocket.

    • They have automatic change dispenser in each store so there is no need to do this. It is what it is, cheating! They have raised prices once already and can not upset customers with another price hike fearing a boycott (like netflix). Wall street's little darling is assumed to have pricing power, hence the stock has rocketed above $400 a share until the recent disappointed earnings release. If Chipotle can't raise the price, they will round up the pennies. That's blatant stealing. What happen to food with "integrity?". They claimed their food is organic, it's not! They are being investigated for hiring illegal immigrants. It's time to boycott this company!
Where's the integrity in all of this" Healthy food? Men's Health Magazine rated it as the 20 worse food to eat.
According the Men's Health Magazine, a single chicken burrito:
      "1,179 calories
      7 g fat
      125 g carbs
      2,656 mg sodium

Despite a reputation for using healthy, fresh ingredients, Chipotle's menu is limited to king-size burritos, overstuffed tacos, and gigantic salads —all of which lead to a humongous waistline. "

    • I seen this story on Fox59. This is not good for Chipolte.

    • What a stupid post! Take off the tin foil hat that gets you the free burrito at Halloween. There's no scandel here. Please explain how they did this to make money, when they rounded up and down? Go back to elementary school math to learn how rounding works. The whole practice makes sense to me. Heck, there's been talk of eliminating the penny nationwide and everything working like this. No one even thought much about this until some reporter wanting to hype a story put "cheating" in a headline. This is hardly cheating. But hey, I'll admit I was happy to discover that my regular order was scoring a 2 cent discount everytime I go! If this bothers you so much, go score a free burrito with one of their frequent promotions that provides them and consider yourself way ahead.

"Chipotle Caught Cheating Customers Out Of Pennies, Will Stop Rounding Up Checks "

good luck with those long positions. you have until october before the next dump. LOL!

      • On further thought though, I would agree that a policy that would make much more sense if for them to do like some places and adjust all their prices on the menu so that they, with tax, come out on the quarter. Then, for the occasional combination of items that would round out to be like 26, 51, or 76 cents, they could just round off that extra penny. On that note... you do realize that everytime you buy something, the amount of tax you pay is rounded up to the next penny by just about every cash register in the country, right? Always has worked that way.

    • Seems that the company is getting pretty desperate. Time to buy puts.

      No position.
