      • IBM IBM: Color on Quarter (94.90 )

Analysts generally positive following overall strong results as hardware revenue disappointments were largely company specific (PCs and Storage), while both Global Services and Software revenue growth accelerated... Morgan Stanley saying they continue to believe IBM is one of the best defensive names in the group and that IBM shares can outperform in the mixed demand environment. Firm increases their $5.52 2005 EPS est to $5.62 and 2006 goes to $6.25. Maintain price target for now, but think upside exists as we move through 2005 (and start to look at 2006 valuation metrics)....BofA saying IBM had a solid Q, and despite the apathy of the stock in the aftermarket, they expect the stock to trade modestly higher over the next few days. The most compelling sign is guiding 05 rev up from the current ~5% y/y growth to 6%, which implies an incremental ~$1 billion in revs, no small task. IBM had a poor storage number, which the firm had partially expected due to the late delivery of Shark. Remains encouraged about EMC's storage results in Q4, since they think EMC took share in Q4. Also believe that Sun is negatively implicated. Firm notes that Sun's product rev was down 4%, while IBM's UNIX business was up 15%... IBM traded to $95.10 in after hours
