NEC, EMC JAPAN WIN STORAGE AREA NETWORK ORDER FROM MAZDA
TOKYO, Apr 04, 2001 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- NEC Corp. (TSE: 6701) and EMC Japan KK, the local arm of U.S. computer storage system company EMC Corp., announced that they have received an order for a SAN (storage area network) from Mazda Motor Corp. (TSE: 7261).
The value of the order was not revealed, but Mazda will introduce the SAN as part of the Mazda Digital Innovation Phase III information system, designed to improve the efficiency of the company's new-car development and production activities.
NEC will construct the SAN for Mazda using EMC's storage system hardware and database backup software. The SAN will be built from six servers and one of EMC's Symmetrix storage systems that can hold about 8 terabytes of data.
NEC and EMC Japan formed an alliance in February 2000 and are working together to introduce storage systems to corporations in Japan.
