Impact of new cameras on CAJ sales

While the T2i has caught my eye as a potential blockbuster SLR for Canon, continued changeover in the compact camera line would seem to cause more confusion for consumers. Anyone have any sense of whether Canon's new cameras will make an impact on 2010 and 2011 sales?

    • Yes. But not at the retail level. I work in the film business. the 1D, 5D, and 7D are changing the way we work. As we speak. While many cinematographers in the industry have been reluctant to switch from film to digital image capture, the ease, image quality and size of the Canon cameras introduces a game changer. A massive change in the way in which work is done and money is spent.

While the increase in volume may not perceptibly impact sales, what will change significantly are sale of the add-ons. The small high end parts that Canon will have to make, cine lenses which have an entirely different focus mechanism. And, soon these same cameras modified to meet the requirements of a different set of parameters; eyepiece, video playback,
variable shutter, etc. It's just beginning.

Equally, once the public comes to learn that one can purchase the exact same camera that is being used to shoot movies, my guess is that awareness will be reflected in the overall Canon brand and we'll see an appreciable uptick in retail sales volume.
