Motivation is dependant on the needs of the individual. What motivates you may not necessarily motivate another person. If the "bonus" program motivates the individual to execute the presribed processes to their fullest, and yet they fall short of the predetermined goals set for them, than why should they not have a benefit to show appreciation for their hard work? What motivates an individual to acheive the "sales plan," is to be directly involved with the setting of that goal, and endeavor to meet the plan that was set. Not one Assistant Manager has any involvement with the planning of their store's sales goal. The shareholders should be concerned. The values remain with THD, but the "culture" has been lost. Part of that culture was to reward for true effort and controlling what can be controlled, in lieu of falling short of sales plans. This is what motivated the managers, created manager loyalty, and instilled a devotion and passion that has now begun to wane. The options are not the issue, it is what replaced, or did not replace them that is in question.

    • Has the removal of options for assistant managers been verified in regards to the store managers and district managers being awarded a form of outright stock to replace the missing portion of their compensation package? and if so, what effect will will this have on the California assistant manager class action lawsuit,as well as the other states that are waiting in the wings, when a jury of regular Joes and Joesephines hear the term,"retaliation" ? Please Atlanta !!! wise-up before you harm all of us beyond repair!!

    • Has the removal of options from the assistant store managers been verified in regards to the store managers and district managers being awarded some other form of outright stock? and if this is true, what effect will this have in the California assistant store manager class action lawsuit, the additional states to follow when the accusation of ,"retaliation" surfaces in front of a jury of average Joes and Josephines? This concerns me as a fairly high share count holder! Wise-up Atlanta, you could hurt all of us beyond repair.

    • You are correct !!!!

If HD can affort all the perks to executive
mismanagement teams including the cars, insurance and stock and options they should
      share it with all management.

Many semiconductor companines, CY for one,
have options for everyone in the company, from the CEO down to the clerks in the mailroom.

Instead HD has success sharing, wow, I could have gotten a check for $ 237 !!!!

    • The $42MM along with the $22MM that our
HR man gets could pay for a lot of
      associates, full and part time.

Even with a $ 6.00 raise, many of the
new hires will not approach what many of
the veteran pt/ft hd associates earn.

    • I also agree that HD needs to replace old or obsolete merit and bonus programs, not eliminate them.

Our store has never made success sharing and
with our high goals never will but we will try.
The sister stores have made bonus and plan because they are newer and had smaller goals.
These stores also use discounts to steal our
      customers away from our store.

Our founders has a business model that placed the store and the associates at the top of the org chart.

Today, the associates are located at the bottom of the heap, with a greedy CEO and BOD at the top.

    • I have been with the company for almost 14 years and an ASM for the last 9 years in logistics. The elimination of stock options for ASM's is nothing but pure bullshit. This company is posting quarter after quarter of record earnings and continues to forcast solid growth, but they need to take away from the ASM's that suppose to lead and motivate our workers day in and day out.

I was told that according to the compensation committee they used associate feedback and Employment of choice (EOC) results to help them make their decision. Thats funny since when do ASM's fill out the EOC surveys? Speaking to other veteran ASM's in my area not one was ever asked or surveyed in regards to stock options or compensation.

Options for myself not only energized me, but gave me a genuine reason to be a "company" guy. They were the future for my family(pay off house, college, etc).

Stay with the company, work my tail off, get an achiever rating and barely get an increase that covers the cost of living?

What for the ideal time to sell what options I do have and look to open my own business?

One thing for sure I'm truly disgusted with this company that I thought would take care of me as long as I did my part and as long as the company still was thriving. I guess I was wrong. Thanks Bob I'm sure your future financial situation is not in question with huge compensation package.
