Tried to get in touch with HD Corporate staff privately on this, but their customer support phone tree is so annoying that I will just post it here for all the world to see.
OK, my friend's house in Colorado Springs burned down in the recent fires. I got word second hand that it might be nice to send them gift cards from Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc, so I go online and try to send a $100 gift card to my friend.
The order goes in, and I am happy. Next day, I get a cancellation email -- no reason given. I call Customer Service. I am told that somewhere along the line the address had been altered from what I had entered, and instead of "P.O. Box xxxxx" it became just "Box xxxxx" and that was seen as wrong.
So we re-enter the order and made it P.O. Box xxxxx again, and I give the HD Customer Service gal my credit card information all over again.
Next day, I get another cancellation notice.
So this morning, I call and ask what is going on. I am now told that 'Home Depot does not send gift cards to P.O. Box addresses.'
OK, that is reasonable - they could easily be stolen from mail boxes, or folks could claim they didn't get them.
So here are my frustrations:
1) WHY DOES THE HD WEBSITE LET ME ENTER A PO BOX ADDRESS, IF HOME DEPOT WON'T EVEN SEND TO A PO BOX?!
2) WHY DIDN'T THE FIRST EMAIL CANCELLATION GIVE THE REASON FOR KILLING MY ORDER?
3) IF THAT IS THE POLICY, FINE; BUT WHY DIDN'T THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON TELL ME?!
Obviously I cannot send the gift card to his home address since ....HIS HOUSE BURNED DOWN.
I am a VERY LONG TIME Home Depot customer -- since at least 1988. I still intend to shop there; but this Home Depot experience has been thoroughly mishandled.
Hi this is Sheronda with Home Depot Customer Care. I'm sorry about the problems you had with ordering the gift card online. I will make sure that our online leadership team is aware so that we can make the appropriate changes to the process. If you have any additional comments to share, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Frustrated; couple of simple questions; if you was a very long time shopper at the Depot why did you not pick a gift card up at the service desk. Think about it, how can a card be sent to a P O Box, someone has to place it in an envelope to be delivered there; next time use BOPIS a lot less frustrating for you. Have a good weekend Y'all
