    China sells pirfenidone:::$22/kg

    • It's a simple compound, what do you want. Obtaining this is one step further then buying vitamin supplements. They have an indian generic version for sale on the site there, and it's already packaged and ready for consumption. Most of the people are lazy, though. So some will buy a brand version no matter what. But as it stands now, you can get it now if you really really need it.

      I'm routinely now buying clothes from Europe that I had no access to even a few years ago. Every year there is more and more you can buy across the world on the internet.

    • If you really think the chinese bottle manufacturer will deliver for $22 why not try ordering some. You may be surprised to learn the Web price is somewhat inaccurate. And you may want to consider having someone conduct some purity testing. Furthermore, if this were the true cost, short ITMN because once the product is approved in the EU lots of small groups will be competing - no patent protection in that market.

    • in those Asian countires where rhino horn can
      sell for $2,000 an ounce, at $22/kg, they saying
      pirfenidone got NO VALUE!

    • " I can buy foreign antibiotics for 90% discount to US counterpart in the NYC pharmacy with a prescription from the US doctor. I didn't know you could do that until several months ago. "

      That works for off-patent drugs (very few antibiotics are still under patent). There you have 3 tiers: the branded product is still sold, then there are US-label generices and there are outside-US-label generics. The OUS-label generics take a bit of play-acting to make legal-ish.

      In the case of under-patent drugs, the patent owner controls both domestic supply and importation. Any non-royalty-paid dose is plenty illegal enough to cost any physician who knowingly uses it his license. Hell, it's illegal enough so side effects are probably aggravated battery.

      Give it 3 years and maybe a black market in pirfenidone might be financially important. But only extreme optimists expect pirfenidone to have a market lifetime much over 3 years. It really is a lousy drug.

    • The issue is not black market. The issue is global market. If you don't allow market in EU or US, India or China steps in. It's a completely environment then your run of the mill smuggling or black market. It's legit and is on an international scale. Cipla is a real pharma company. You have real Indian doctors who can fill the prescription for you once the EU accepts the drug. If it was PFE or MRK, you wouldn't have Cipla doing the generic before the brand name comes out. The whole industry is screwed because of that, not just ITMN. Smaller companies are just more exposed to this, but it happens across the whole pharma spectrum. I can buy foreign antibiotics for 90% discount to US counterpart in the NYC pharmacy with a prescription from the US doctor. I didn't know you could do that until several months ago.

    • If it was the drug that would have a wide audience, you would have home pressed pills all over if the dose costs 45K a year LOL. But their audience are old people who may not know how to get the drug legally at a fraction of a cost LOL. Again, some will not bother with this no matter what the costs are, and some will have the state pay for it, so they don't care. If they had to pay out of pocket, you could sell the packaged compound as a compound if you could reach these people.
