to get some perspective on the demand side its all about the population and still looks like many dont quite understand the exponential growth. From the bbc news march 31, " India's population has grown by 181 million people over the past decade to 1.21bn according to the 2011 census." So thats about a growth of about 58% of the population of the USA in India alone. So we can see tremendous demand side growth for food commodities. On the supply side the world continues to face challenges of weather, irrigation, pests, rising production costs etc. If 2011 is not a good year for ag yield one can expect much higher price of food commodities.
