GOOG did miss big this quarter. Since it is bad luck to report a bad earnings on Lunar New Year holiday period as Chinese believe bad luck will extend to the whole year, that report can only come out after 1/16 of Lunar calendar, so it has no effect on next 3 quarters.
If BIDU misses "big" then any subsequent drop in the price of the stock will be attributable to a general market sell off by those that are long the stock. There are only about 6.6 million total share that are short. That is just slightly over one day's average trading volume, so I don't believe that shorts can do that much damage to the share price in the event of a miss. Instead, disgruntled longs will fuel the decline in the price of the stock when they decide to unload their positions in mass.
