I'm not sure if investors are aware of this, but The Arbitron Ratings service has left the market in Springfield, Illinois. Clear Channel was the last company in the market to decide against buying it in September, so Arbitron has pulled out. Make your own decisions as how this impacts agency business, national business, and any local folks who believe that the Arbitron is the holy grail of audience measurement. Radio stations are becoming aware that size of the audience doesn't automatically mean results for advertisers.
I haven't read these boards in a long time, but noticed that a previous poster had asked about massive layoffs at Saga. The story was true in February, and it is happening again. Several people were fired last week.
Saga is a good broadcasting company, but in Central Illinois, they have seen many challenges. The revolving door of employment has involved on-air, sales, and management.
Springfield is not their largest market, so in the scheme of things, the impact on the overall performance of Saga is limited.
