Q4 EPS to drop from $0.13 to $0.02, 84% drop ... would MXWL hold above $4/share?

    In 2012-Q3 earnings MXWL stated:

"Our revenues were $43.9 million for the third quarter of 2012, up 7% from Q2 2012. The higher revenues in the third quarter were driven by a 19% sequential increase in ultracapacitor product sales, which generated $28.8 million in revenues for the quarter."

"In the near term, low robust related shipments and soft demand elsewhere have reduced anticipated ultracapacitor sales. As a result, we expect fourth quarter revenue to be similar to that recorded in the first quarter this year and seasonable softness primarily related to the Chinese New Year observance is likely to push revenue sequentially lower yet in the first quarter of 2013."

    in 2012-Q1 ernings MXWL stated:

"Maxwell recorded total revenue of $39.2 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2012. Now, that’s up 11% from the same period a year ago. That growth was driven not only by ultracapacitor sales of $22 million, which is up 3% from Q1 ’11, but also by unusually strong sales of microelectronics and high-voltage capacitor products, which came in at $17.2 million, which is up 24% from last year’s first quarter. This growth, along with continuing cost and efficiency improvements, enabled the company to show a net profit of about $500,000 for the quarter. On a non-GAAP basis, net profit for Q1 was $1.8 million." resulting in EPS of $0.02/share ...

That looks to be a drop from last weeks expectations of makint $0.13/share in Q4 to making $0.02/share, which looks to be a drop of 84% ...

Would MXWL hold above $4/share ...

    • hmmm... delphi, once something has been communicated, it will be priced in. as MXWL announced a drop to 0.02 for Q4, and the stock dropped from 7.50 to below 6, consider the news priced in. if they deliver 0.02 in Q4, the stock will probably even rise, because they accurately predicted that figure...

just a side note: my understanding is that the non-GAAP figures are the operational figures. the 1.8 millions earned in Q1, 2012 represent about 0.06 per share, not the 0.02 you mention. still a steep drop, but they will remain profitable, so cash is no problem.
