Love the wine tasting critic in Barron's Article
I loved what Jay Palmer, the writer at Barron's did, to describe the flavor of Dr Pepper for the average reader of the magazine who isn't familiar with it. They got a wine expert to taste it and describe it. Now that is something that Coke and Pepsi CAN NOT do. Afterall, theirs are just colas. The only difference in taste is, at the end of the day, sweetness. For the good Doctor, it is something else entirely different. DPS's marketing folks should do a series of commercials around this wine tasting theme -- rip a page from the old cola war taste tests. Do the wine experts tasting and comparing flavor notes. Go to the streets and have average consumers do it, too. Could be a hell of a lot of fun. And a great way to get the untried consumer to try it. How could you argue with Lewis Purdue's report: "Dr. Pepper offers a solid cola-nut punch with hints of caramel, almond and cherry that are lightened with citrus, seedberry and vanilla, all served up with a well-behaved fizz." WOW! A marketing department's DREAM testimonial!
