sorry, you must be an engineer. picky-picky. I should have said mini TLP. but so what the question is the same. The topsides are most likely gone. I suspect Typhoon (platform & reserves) are a write-off.
Typhoon is not a SPAR. The Chevron SPAR is intact at Green Canyon 205.
I think you're asking about the topsides of Typhoon. I suspect the company will dive on it to check out what is there and investigate the oil leak.
What are the chances that the superstructure is still attached to the spar. Seems to me that it is unlikely.
Anyone know whether this type of destruction is covered by business interuption insurance? Self-insured or something else? Seems like millions of $ are lost every day this is not up and running.
Thanks for the link. Does it look like it capsized to anyone else? This is a very large bad.
This is the first time that the new deepwater structures have been severely tested. It'll be interesting to compare how the various design ideas fared. Katrina exposed those in the delta region and it looks like Rita exposed virtually the rest. I certainly hope that Typhoon is the exception, because these are all high volume producers that the companys and nation can ill afford to lose.
Bummed
A Reuter's story said the rig was initially "missing" and has since been "located and secured."
