Gosh, thats great! Now when 2 billion Asians fuel up there new cars for the first time, they can feel good about it. Get long raw materials and energy as a hedge to a balanced portfolio over the next several years.
these cars wil not change the consumption. They will save consumer money with 10 more miles to the gallon. Powerplants still require oil, jetliners running on hybrids is not possible. heating oil for wintertime. What will change? Unless a major shift in the source, to solar or hydrogen, which are not mainstream hit, nothing changes
Good point! We'll be paying for energy to power these vehicles one way or another, whether that energy comes from a gallon of gasoline or from an oil, gas or coal fired generator to charge our batteries. The efficiency of an internal combustion engine is around 25%. I don't know of any studies done to determine the efficiency of getting electricity to our homes to charge those batteries, but there are a lot of losses along the way, in terms of transmission line voltage drops, transformer efficiency, etc.
