Ponty, It is not 6 years; it's 3 years. The all time high was hit in early 2002. Stock sectors are cyclic. Big Pharma had a good run a few years back, then a downturn in last 3 years. IMO we are coming back into a good period for the sector, driven by demographics, easing of adverse political pressure, and decline of other formerly hot stock sectors, among other fundamental factors. ABT appears to be well positioned from its pipeline, financial strength, and traditionally strong sales/marketing organization to outperform during the upcoming period of sector strength. JMHO. Snug
The chart indicates you are correct, snug. I agree that ABT is one of the better stocks in its sector, but I question whether the sector will be strong in the near future. Demographics may work in pharmas favor, but I suspect that there will be a further backlash, especially by seniors, against the high cost of prescription drugs.
