    840,000 shares sold by insiders

more than 840,000 have been sold by insiders and not one Buy. What does that tell you.

    • ABT is attractive because it's growth rate (15%) is greater than it's forward PE (10:1) Anytime a Co has a GR (15) that exceeds PE (10), a very defensively positioned Co., with respectable (and reliable) Divy, it should be considered a candidate for a balanced Portfolio!

      • If it is so great a candidate for a balanced portfolio, why have insiders sold the 840,000 shares over the last 6 months....with ZERO insider purchases??
Answer: They don't need to buy because the Company grants options and gives the stock away. Management/BOD have all the stock they desire.
They are just selling to make a few extra bucks.
But, by doing so they are exhibiting greed and no long term loyalty....that's the world today.

Troubling to me is the fact that over 10 Million shares were sold by institutions this past quarter.

Why would any investor be interested in buying stock in a company that instituions and insiders are selling?....or so the reporting indicates. Whether justified or not...That is one major reason for the poor market performance on ABT.

    • Depending on the time horizon, nothing really. If i'm a short term trader, i would be worried. But if i think the intrinsic value of ABT 10 years from now will be greater than it is right now, i would actually buy more, which i have been doing. The day to day, month to month fluctuation in the price of the stock is determined by emotion...but long term, it is ALWAYS determined by the intrinsic value. If the intrinsic value of a company is going up, the price will always catch up sooner or later as long as the company is not overvalued. I think the price of the stock is signifiicantly lower than its intrinsic valley right now.

I believe it you can make money both as a trader and as a long term investor. Its just that i'm more comfortable as a long term investor.

good luck to both short and longs, short term traders and long term investors.

      • Traders are a-holes. Those like yourself, declaring themselves as "long-term investors" in a WS market dominated by THIEVES are naive or stupid at best.

As for ABT, it was higer more than a decade ago.

you need to have a longer term horizon.... say 25 years, maybe 30 years.... how much patience do you ask for????
