I've now lost 4.3% on ABBV!!

That's enough pain for me with a new company....I sold at @ $35.19....the ABT/ABBV separation hasn't done my portfolio any favors....since the first of the year, for every ONE dollar my ABT has gone up.....my ABBV has gone down TWO....can somebody please tell me how splitting ABT in two was good for the shareholders?

    Sentiment: Strong Sell

Its up over 0.90 cents today and the two stocks combined are trading over $70 which is in the year high area, so not understanding how you lost 4.3%, especially when a div check is also coming.................

    • I don't understand your comment. ABBV is trading $0.12 higher than its opening price. Comparing my total market value for ABBV+ABT with the TMV for ABT on 12/31, I have a 6.4% increase. And the announcement of the split caused the price of ABT to rise over a period of several months. The total dividend for ABBV+ABT is higher, I believe, than the last dividend for ABT pre-split. So, if I understand your post, you owned ABT pre-split. Although ABBV is off its high, unless you bought additional ABBV post-split, you haven't lost money on it, and you've made money on ABT. What am I missing here? In answer to your final question, whether the split was good for shareholders will not be answered for several years. Many analysts argue that the split "unlocks" company value. But only time will tell, and the answer will depend on whether ABBV succeeds as a drug discovery and development company.

    • I was a bit disappointed in the splitting of ABT. I plan to sell ABT but keep ABBV and buy GSK in place of ABT.

      Sentiment: Sell
