ABT a buy long term IMO

Spin off complete. ABT is like JNJ or PG. Slow mover but balance sheet and products favor demographics of population. They have so many products, a hiccups here and there, not going to be a material issue. LOOK at labels what you buy. Everything from Ensure to Protein drinks, to hospital point of care testing...on and on. I am buying more at these levels for the long term. Downside is small...upside and dividend solid. Good luck all

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • With the spin off, ABT gets more flexible (smaller is better), so it can grow faster. I look for a shareholder friendly company. A bigger dividend, buybacks, aquisitions.

      • If Abbott wants to be successful in the market they will need to do a lot of work on improving their margins from manufacturing, distribution all way through SG&A. This will not happen over night but they works needs to begin immediately.

      • With a market cap of $59 billion, ABT is in the top 100 of all companies, and in the health care sector it is in the top 20. So, it is smaller, but certainly not small enough to have the virtue of whatever you mean by flexible. It can be more focused on non-pharmaceutical products - that's about all they've achieved by spinning off ABBV. In order to do ANY of the so-called shareholder friendly things you mention, ABT first has to figure out how to grow EARNINGS. I see no basis for optimism except of the most cautious kind.

        Sentiment: Hold
