I have been looking at abt, trying to understand what has made this company so successful. I realize they spend a huge amount on r@d. They will always have generic competition,is it the management or what? Has anybody done any research on this? thanks!
I have been with Abbott/TAP many, many years. TAP's pipeline is one of the finest I've ever seen and Abbott Pharm. is really doing ok. The other divisions of Abbott are really pretty much on target. The outlook (as we at Abbott are looking at it) is very, very good. This is a very strong, steady company and many people have been able to retire at 50 or a little thereafter and live very comfortably with this stock. Abbott's drugs afford many to have generics out on them. This is ok. The drugs Abbott has have been very broad collectively and cover many disease states. These do well and will continue to do well even considering the broad markets they are in i.e. cardiovascular, anti-microbial etc. Abbott is well worth buying at any price.
