    • actually, I am saying otherwise...PR is referred to when talking about a company's (or celebrity's, other entity's, etc.) public image...can be positive or negative. One might issue a "PR piece" - like a favorable article, etc., but they're still talking about public relations, not press releases. Never had anyone ask me to issue a "PR" about anything...no "let's do a PR", etc...sorry dude.

    • PR is a recognized abbreviation for press release. Certainly you are not saying otherwise.

"...may include issuing press releases, but not PRs."

    • PR is public relations, and may include issuing press releases, but not PRs...just as I wouldn't advertise on a "BB" for billboard, or run a "YPA" for yellow pages ad...sorry, can't help you there...

    • Changing your tune a little, I see. But you still won't admit PR is also an abbreviation for press release? C'mon, you're anonymous here, the truth will set you free.

    • wow...when will you learn? as stated in your cut & pasted excerpt, a press release is a TOOL - among many tools - used in the PR area...otherwise known as (P)ublic (R)elations, which is where the term "PR" comes from...so, no, PR <> Press Release...PR involves much more than issuing press releases.

    • Here you go:

A press release, also known as a news release, is simply a written statement to the media. They can announce a range of news items: scheduled events, personnel promotions, awards, new products and services, sales accomplishments, etc. They can also be used in generating a feature story. Reporters are more likely to consider a story idea if they first receive a release. It is a fundamental tool of PR work, one that anyone who's willing to use the proper format can use.
