We all know that little over a 100 years ago the Titanic sailed from Southampton England for the US and sank 4 days latter. What most don't know is that after arriving in New York the next stop would be Vera Cruz, Mexico. It carried cargo as well as passengers and a large potion of that cargo was Dutch Mayonnaise considered to be delicacy in Mexico. With the poor state of communications 100 years ago no word of the sinking arrived in Vera Cruz so the residents anxiously awaited the Titanic and its precious cargo for day upon days. When the word of the sinking arrived there were many despondent aficionados of mayonnaise. Rather than dwell on the negative the Mexicans decided to have glorious celebration. That day they partied, it was May 5th, 1913 ever since the day has been known as Sinko De Mayo.
