    Z160 P2a will be positive!

In the trials, the control group is placebo! Z160 will be easily positive when compared with placebo. If Z160 does not show any major side effect, Zalicus will be the buyout target!

    Sentiment: Hold

    • I don't want to rain on your parade as I also want Z160 to have great results, but...
In order to show efficacy you normally use a placebo. Where you can be further wrong from is what is known as the placebo effect which tends to show its ugly head more so in pain killing drugs than in other drugs being tests against it. The reason is because our brains have a tendency to make us believe things are working when in fact it isn't and can even reduce pain simply by making someone believe it is a pain pill. The good news is the FDA knows this issue is apparent in pain killing drugs and has shown through the approval recently of Zohydro and other pain killers that they overlook the placebo to a certain degree if the placebo also shows positive pain diminishing results. Where this can be bad is if Z160 does not beat the placebo to a certain degree. If the placebo shows the same ability or more of an ability to diminish pain, then the phase 2 trials will be a failure even if Z160 manages to show a pain scale of 30% reduction.

    • are you implying that clinical trials that compares with placebo are always successful?
