I'm considering adding UL to my portfolio. But I have a question regarding the dividend. Since this is a UK company, is there a foreign tax withheld from the dividend? If so, is the dividend quoted before or after tax? Thanks in advance for any help. Ron
No foreign taxes on dividends are withheld by UL due to an agreement with the British. (Unlike UN, which withholds foreign taxes for the Netherlands.)
Be careful how you interpret the dividend. UL currently follows the European system of paying dividends twice a year, and even those two distributions are not equal. Many websites seem to be unaware of this and incorrectly calculate the yield. The best source of dividend info is Unilever's own website.
Next year UL is switching over to the US system of quarterly dividends.
