    Satisfaction rating/NAHB blasts Datelin

While trying to obtain some substance behind the 90% new house buyer satisfaction rating posted by homebuilder_watcher on the KBH board I came across the following:

May 17, 2001 NAHB Blasts Datelines Report On New Home Warranties. "Datelines April 17 report was a one-sided and unfair portrayal of the home building industry and 10-year insured warranties on new homes. It sensationalized the issue and served only to needlessly alarm prospective home buying consumers."

I tried without success to find the rest of the story behind the statement above. If anyone can provide a link I would like to read the NAHB response.

"Sensationalized the issue..., neelessly alarm prospective home buying consumers."?

I wish that when I entered the den of a corporate/public new house builder I would have had the opportunity to be 'needlessly alarmed'. I wish the 'sensationalized' issue concerning the business practices of the corporate/public new house builders had been brought to my attention.

Who in their right mind is willing to assume the risk of the unlucky 10% (questionable statistic, by the way) of unsatisfied new house buyers?

Do not let the largest investment of your family's life become a financial and emotional nightmare. How much are you willing to risk? Financial security in your retirement? Your kids' college education?

IN MY OPINION, THERE IS NOT A LEGAL PRODUCT AVAILABLE IN THE MARKETPLACE TODAY THAT CARRIES THE DEGREE OF POTENTIAL FINANACIAL AND EMOTIONAL RISK FOR THE PURCHASER AS DOES THAT OF A NEW HOUSE.

Reading the court cases available on-line is a good idea, too.

Your due diligence is only effective BEFORE the fact.
    I wish you well.

    • Hey r8..., How about a few comments for the benefit of the other stupid, or 'stuipid' people, who may benefit from the 'needless alarm' and 'sensational' Dateline report?

      • Of the 10% that are not completely satisfied, what portion of those are upset, but are not in the class of those that think they got screwed?

What percentage of new home owners are in the postition that feel they need to sue the builder?

You can play up anecdotes and individual stories. You can bring up badbusinessbureau.com, yet when it comes to hard statistics, you come up emtpy.

While you feel the need to be the consumer advicate for new home buyers, your posting of the same info over and over doesn't help anybody except maybe your own lowered self-esteem.
